This meditation is called ‘Divine Mother Power Meditation”. It’s a Kundalini practice and although I’m not a Kundalini yoga teacher, I do practice certain meditation techniques with my pregnancy and family yoga students. Meditation is a powerful tool for balancing emotions and calming the mind. Please try it and let me know how it goes. I promise you, if you’re feeling sad, you’ll feel better! When we feel confused, upset or distracted, we can be healed and uplifted by chanting the sound of the Maaaaa from our heart.
Directions:
Sit in a comfortable position with the spine straight (Easy Pose or with your spine against the wall). Place your hands on you heart, left on top of right. (Men may feel more comfortable with right on top of left.) You can also place your hands in Chin/Gyan mudra pressing thumb and index finger together as in in the picture above. Relax your shoulders, feel the Earth under your sitting bones.
Begin by equalising and noticing your breath. Inhale followed by Exhale.
After few breaths, inhale deeply and chant ‘Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa’ for as long as your breath holds out (normally counting to 6 or 8). Inhale and repeat chanting. Don’t let yourself come out of air. Make it a comfortable breathing process.
Chant for 3-11 minutes, or more if you wish.
To End:
Inhale deeply, hold, exhale. Do this 3 times. While holding the breath, listen to the sound resonate in your body and mind. Then sit quietly and let the healing love that you feel expand from your heart and radiate throughout your whole body.
Although it’s called Mother’s Meditation it can be done both by men and women. It aligns us with the creative and nurturing power of the Mother. Many things can come up, including negative emotions to be healed and situations to be resolved. Be with whatever comes to you and let the love within your own heart and the sound itself help in your healing!
