Hasta Mudras or hand gestures, hand locks are energetic locks or seals. In Sanskrit, hasta means “hand” and “mudra” means “gesture”, “seal”, “stamp”. So, hasta mudras are hand gestures that seal the energy flow in our body in a particular way and direct it towards the way we want it to go, thus positively act on our mood or make subtle mental and physical changes in our energy body.

Ganesha mudra is named after the Lord Ganesha, known as remover of obstacles. It directs the heart fire energy. It is very much used when you need to direct the energy towards solving some problem or towards releasing from an emotional knot.

How to perform:

Hold your left hand in front of your chest with the palm facing outward. Bend the fingers, and place the right hand on top grasping the fingers. Move the hands to the level of heart. As you exhale pull the hands apart without releasing them. This will tense the muscles in your upper arms and chest. As you inhale let go of the tension. Repeat 6 times and then place the hands on the sternum in this position. Focus on the feeling in this part of the body. Then swap the position of the hands and repeat 6 times.

This mudra stimulates the heart, strengthens the heart muscles, opens the bronchial tubes, releases the tension. Both physical and psychological. It gives us courage, confidence and openness towards others.

It is also liberating us from the problems – if we feel that something needs releasing and letting go, and we need courage to do so, this mudra will help.

Activates the fire element and supports Heart / Anahata chakra.
